Local-first context gateway
LiteContext
A macOS app that turns selected local knowledge into cited, searchable context for AI tools—without making the cloud the default home for personal files.
01 / Why it exists
The friction worth removing
AI tools are useful inside one conversation but often lose the names, decisions, and source material that matter across projects. Generic retrieval also makes it hard to tell where an answer came from.
02 / How it works
Fit the tool to the existing habit
LiteContext indexes only the folders a person chooses, keeps the source material local by default, and returns context with links back to the original files. Guided connections make the same context available to tools such as Codex, Claude Code, and Cursor.
03 / Core capabilities
What it does today
- Add Obsidian vaults, Markdown folders, and text files
- Search local knowledge with source citations
- Create focused context profiles for different projects
- Connect supported AI clients through MCP and export fallbacks
04 / Boundaries
Limits stated plainly
- macOS 12 or later on Apple silicon
- Only explicitly added folders are indexed
- The product is in technical preview; workflows and interfaces may change
- The source repository is not public
